Weight Loss Success with Ideal Protein at PROTECT

Joslyn was unhappy with her weight gain. She realized she was drinking too much and just wasn’t pleased with the way her body looked or felt anymore. For years, she had also been battling the weight gain associated with PCOS — a condition which contributes to insulin resistance. Joslyn tried all kinds of strategies to lose the weight in the past. These other programs left her frustrated thanks to poor results and their high cost.

When I met Joslyn she was fed up. She had already decided to turn her life around before she came in —  making lots of excellent diet and lifestyle changes. She was feeling better, but hadn’t yet seen the numbers on the scale dropping. At her initial visit I could tell Joslyn was motivated, she just needed some guidance! Enter the Ideal Protein medical weight loss program… She was the perfect candidate for this program: motivated, ready to change, optimistic and flexible.

Joslyn’s results were awesome and we were both pleased with her progress on Ideal Protein. One week after seeing me at Protect and starting Ideal Protein she lost 5.4 lbs! After one month on the program she had lost 11.6 lbs. More than the numbers on the scale, Joslyn was now starting to just feel better, happier, more like herself again. She had gotten rid of some of her larger sized clothes and was smiling every time she came in for her weekly coaching session.

As of July, she has now been on the program for 2 months, with a total loss of 19.4 lbs! She is truly glowing when I see her in the office. She regularly walks and has started running again (an activity she hasn’t been able to pain-free do in years)! She is fully in the IP routine and a shining example of the changes possible with a bit of motivation, persistence and an optimistic outlook.

Although we still have a journey ahead of us, I know Joslyn is ready and excited to take on the next 20 lbs and beyond to reach her weight loss goal.

Solutions for Chronic Exhaustion – The Modern Epidemic – adrenal dysfunction

Adrenal Dysfunction Treatments – your solution to chronic exhaustion

I just feel tired all the time.”
“I wake up feeling exhausted!
My night time sugar cravings are out of control.

Do these statements sound familiar? If you can relate, you’re in good company. Many of my patients come to the PROTECT clinic with these complaints and they’ve had enough! Most are fully reliant on cup after cup of coffee (many experience little to no boost, however) and almost all of them are struggling with their weight.

Unfortunately, thanks to modern life, most people experience this chronic and unrelenting exhaustion at one time or another. The good news is we know what causes it: Adrenal Dysfunction. Our adrenal glands produce cortisol which helps regulate our metabolism and helps your body respond to stress.

The better news is we have tests to measure cortisol and treatments which can alleviate these complaints. Adrenal dysfunction or “adrenal exhaustion” is a popular concept — a “buzz” health topic — but do you know what it actually is?

The adrenals are two small glands which sit on top of the kidneys. When the body experiences stress, the adrenals release the cortisol hormone which help us prepare to fight a threat or run from danger. Among their many effects, these chemicals increase heart rate and blood pressure to help our muscles get ready, they decrease normal functions of our bodies like tissue repair and immune function and increase the amount of sugar in the blood stream.

I think we can agree this system is in place for great and lifesaving reasons, however, in today’s world the problem is the body and mind are often unable differentiate between the chronic stresses of modern life and actual life-threatening emergencies.  Ideally, these hormones would be saved for situations where we are actually trying to survive… not just daily occurrences such as sitting in stop and go traffic, high pressure at work to hit goals and deadlines, rushing to not only finish work but also manage the chaos of raising a family.  In these “stressful, non-emergencies”, cortisol levels build up in your bloodstream and begin to wreak havoc on your body and mind.

The outcome of this chronic exposure to stress hormones is both overactive and under active adrenal glands, our cortisol levels become imbalanced. Over activity usually comes first followed by under activity when they are no longer able to compensate.

Effects of under active or overactive adrenal glands include:

• Weight gain, particularly around the abdomen
• Increased risk of diabetes
• Feeling “tired yet wired” at night
• Poor quality sleep, unable to get to sleep, waking often
• Waking fatigued
• Night time sugar cravings
• Blood pressure is too high or too low
• “Foggy thinking” – interference with learning and memory
• Poor immune system function (more colds and flus)

What can we do about it? My number one suggestion for combating the symptoms of adrenal exhaustion is to keep a routine. Try to wake and go to bed at the same time every day, eat at relatively the same times every day. Routine tells the body what to expect when and that we are safe, despite intermittent stressors. Beyond this, I offer patients help with this every day with easy lab tests and natural supplements with the goal of bringing balance and harmony to the hormonal system.

The Phentermine Solution – Getting a handle on crazy cravings

“I’ve tried everything to lose weight, but nothing is working – my food cravings sabotage me”. I hear this story from women in the PROTECT Seattle clinic all the time. Women begin a diet plan with the best intentions. They are happy to shed a few pounds, but then in a moment of weakness, they give in to their ‘crazy craving’ and feel like a failure. It’s a terribly vicious cycle. Try a new diet and fail at a new diet.

This time of year as the sun starts to show its face more often, weight loss becomes a priority again after a long Winter of hibernation. With Summer comes parties, weddings, trips to the beach and we want to look our best, right?

What if there was a solution to this crazy circle of attempts to lose weight that targeted the cravings?

Phentermine is a very popular option for weight loss, when medically indicated.

When used safely under the supervision of a physician, Phentermine, is a safe option to decrease appetite and cravings while transitioning into a healthier lifestyle which supports weight loss.

Phentermine and medically supervised weight loss is an effective solution for anyone wanting to shed those unwanted pounds. At our Seattle PROTECT Clinic, in addition to Phentermine, our physicians offer weight loss programs for effective and lasting results.

We offer a FREE consultation with our doctors to discuss phentermine as a solution for weight loss. Please give us a call at (206) 457-5518
